Central AC by size is Fixr's installed price. Heat pump and AC-with-furnace prices start from 3-ton figures for Savannah and Georgia (HVAC Project Cost, HVAC.com) and move $400–$700 per half ton, the step HVAC.com gives. More on the HVAC installation cost page.
How the estimator works
- Repairs: the installed range for the repair you choose, parts and labor. The after-hours option adds one hour at Fixr's emergency labor rate.
- New systems: the type of system and its size in tons. Ductwork replacement is an add-on, from a Savannah price guide.
- Tune-ups: one visit or a yearly plan, with drain cleaning as an add-on.
- Totals are rounded outward (to $5 for repairs and tune-ups, $100 for new systems) and always shown as a range.
Example: a capacitor on a Saturday
Capacitor $100–$450 + after-hours hour $150–$300 → about $250–$750.

What moves the price up or down
- When you call. Nights, weekends and holidays cost more: Fixr puts emergency labor at $150–$300 an hour, 2 to 3 times the normal rate.
- The part and the brand. A capacitor is a small part; a compressor or coil is the most expensive repair on most systems.
- Warranty. A part still under the manufacturer's warranty can leave you paying mostly labor. Check your paperwork before the visit.
- Refrigerant. A leak has to be found and fixed before a recharge will last.
- For a new system: size, efficiency (SEER2), the type of system, and whether the ductwork needs work.
What the estimate doesn't include
- Permits for a new system (ask whether the quote includes it)
- Electrical, ductwork or access problems found on site
- Diagnostic or trip fees, unless you choose the diagnostic visit
- Rebates, which come off afterwards if you qualify
